Court records confirm that prosecutors in Lafayette Parish requested that I, Celina Charles, be subpoenaed as a witness in the case involving Dwight David Celestine. The court granted that request and listed me as a witness.

However, the truth is this:

I never witnessed the alleged incident, and the State knew that.

Despite this, I was subpoenaed and placed under oath as a witness. Because I was labeled a witness, I was excluded from observing the trial in the courtroom and restricted from discussing the case publicly.

Yet when the trial took place, I was never called to testify.

This raises serious concerns about the misuse of the subpoena process to silence an advocate and prevent public observation of a criminal trial.

The Constitution guarantees open courts, due process, and transparency in criminal proceedings. When individuals are labeled as witnesses without any intention of calling them to testify, it raises questions about whether the process is being used to control who can observe and speak about the proceedings.

The public deserves transparency. Justice cannot operate behind closed doors.

I will continue to stand for truth, due process, and accountability in the justice system.

Ms. Celina Charles
