LAFAYETTE, LA, September 16, 2025 — Purposed For The People, a national civil rights organization, has issued a press release calling on Judge Kristian Earles to dismiss with prejudice all charges against Dwight David Celestine during the September 18 hearing at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse.
Mr. Celestine has been prosecuted since April 21, 2019. After more than six years, four arrests, probation, and house arrest, he has never been convicted. DNA evidence excludes him from the allegations, yet his rights have been repeatedly violated.
Key Violations of Rights
Brady v. Maryland (1963): The prosecution withheld discovery evidence for nearly forty days, violating Dwight’s right to evidence favorable to his defense.
Strickland v. Washington (1984): Denial of motions, judicial bias, and mishandling of evidence deprived Dwight of effective legal process.
Community Property Rights: Judge Royale Colbert forced the Celestines’ marital home onto the market, even though Louisiana law protects community property during marriage. He later admitted in open court that he was wrong.
Due Process, Fourteenth Amendment: Dwight has been arrested four times without conviction, including once with no charges at all. He has endured probation and house arrest without being found guilty. His wife was barred from court and targeted with fabricated protective orders.
Judicial Recusals: Three judges have recused themselves from Dwight’s criminal case. Two judges have recused themselves from his wife’s protective order case. These multiple recusals show conflicts of interest and judicial bias that compromise fairness.
Witness Rights: Civil rights activist Ms. Celina Charles, founder of Purposed For The People, filed multiple motions and an affidavit to be removed as a witness. She made it clear that she had no knowledge of the alleged crime. Judge Kristian Earles denied those motions and compelled her testimony.
Call for Action
“This case is a clear pattern of harassment, bias, and constitutional violations,” said Ms. Celina Charles, founder of Purposed For The People. “Dwight Celestine has been arrested four times without a conviction, barred from his home, and had discovery tampered with, all while DNA evidence proves his innocence. The Constitution demands dismissal with prejudice.”
Court Support
A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse, 800 South Buchanan Street, Lafayette, Louisiana. Members of the press, civil rights organizations, and the public are invited to attend to show support and bear witness.
