Think about that.
One man mistakenly walked into the wrong house after a night of drinking with the accuser boyfriend. He was accused of rape, yet DNA evidence has been cited as disproving that he raped anyone. Despite years of legal proceedings, multiple judges, numerous attorneys, coercive counsel and ongoing concerns raised by his supporters about how his case was handled, he was sentenced to 35 years.
The other is KARMELO Anthony, a young man with no prior criminal history. Supporters point to the video and believe it shows he was attacked first and acted in self defense. He, too, was sentenced to 35 years.
Whether you agree with every argument or not, these cases should remind us of something important.
We have to be aware of our surroundings.
We have to be mindful of the people we stand around and the people we associate with, or one moment can change the rest of your life.
These two cases have sparked serious public debate about fairness, accountability, and equal justice.
Black America, we have to wake up.
Know your rights.
Protect your future.
Be careful where you go, who you trust, and the people you call friend.
Justice should be based on facts, evidence, and fairness not on assumptions or unequal treatment.
